This is a space to pause, learn, listen and and reflect on the iconic legacy of Dr. King and his regal fight for justice. Covering nearly 35 acres in Atlanta’s historic Sweet Auburn neighborhood, the park is free to visit and open to all ages. It's home to preserved landmarks, powerful monuments, and exhibits that bring the story of Dr. King to life. Discover Dr. King’s childhood home, the church where he preached, and where he and his wife, Coretta Scott King, are laid to rest. This park is a way to honor Dr. King’s tireless work for equality, justice, and peace.

Key Sites Within the Park

The Martin Luther King Jr. National Historical Park is home to several sites that give visitors a comprehensive look at Dr. King’s life and impact. The key sites within the park include:

The Birth Home of Dr. King

Dr. King was born on Auburn Avenue in 1929, and the house where he grew up offers a glimpse into his early years. This simple two-story home is where he spent his first 12 years. A guided tour of the house helps visitors understand the roots of the principles that would guide Dr. King throughout his life.

Ebenezer Baptist Church

Just a short walk from Dr. King’s childhood home, Ebenezer Baptist Church is where he was baptized and later preached alongside his father. It was a key part of his life and the civil rights movement. The church still holds services today, and visitors can step inside and experience the place where many of his most powerful messages were first spoken.

The King Center

The King Center is one of the key stops within the park. It has several exhibits and artifacts from Dr. King’s early years to his tragic assassination in 1968. The Center is also the final resting place of both Dr. King and his wife, Coretta Scott King. Their graves are located in a peaceful plaza surrounded by a reflecting pool.

‘I Have a Dream’ World Peace Rose Garden and the BEHOLD Monument

Near the King Center is the World Peace Rose Garden, a quiet spot to reflect on Dr. King’s dream of a more peaceful world. The garden, with its colorful rose bushes, symbolizes the hope, unity, and possibility that Dr. King believed in. Nearby, the BEHOLD Monument features one of his most iconic quotes: "I have a dream that one day... all God's children will be able to join hands and sing... Free at last! Free at last! Thank God Almighty, we are free at last!" It’s a powerful space to take a moment to reflect on Dr. King’s vision for a better, more just world.
